Orange juice exports to US run dry

                               

The exportation of Brazilian orange juice has been stopped. US health authorities have detected small quantities of fungicide, a pesticide used to fight mould on orange plantations. This toxic pesticide is totally banned in the United States.

It’s a real blow for Brazil - the world’s largest exporter of Frozen Concentrated Orange Juice - who will see a noticeable fall in its exports.

In 2011, 170,000 tonnes of FCOJ were exported from Brazil. In 2012, this figure will be neither exceeded nor reached. A fall of around 20% is announced, compared to 2011. This sharp drop is in partly due to orange exports blockade between in the US. Some Important economic consequences will affect FCOJ producers whose turnover will decline.

As of Wednesday, the American health authorities have allowed exportation to resume under strict surveillance.

Des pépins pour le jus d’orange brésilien

   Les Etats-Unis ont arrêté l’exportation de jus d’orange brésilien vers les Etats-Unis. Les autorités sanitaires américaines ont détecté la présence en petite quantité de fongicide, pesticide utilisé pour lutter contre les moisissures sur les plantations d’oranges. Ce pesticide est totalement interdit aux Etats-Unis.

   C’est un coup dur pour le Brésil, le plus grand exportateur de jus d’orange concentré au monde .En 2011, 170.000 tonnes de jus d’orange concentré ont été exportés du Brésil. En 2012, ce chiffre ne sera ni dépassé ni atteint. Une chute de 20% est annoncée par rapport à 2011, en partie due à l’interdiction américaine. Les producteurs de jus d’orange vont être touchés, leur chiffre d’affaire  va baisser.

   Depuis mercredi, les autorités sanitaires américaines ont autorisé la reprise de l’exportation sous haute surveillance. Maintenant toutes les exportations venant du Brésil sont testées
