Rio to be vaccinated against yellow fever

Brazil's Rio state declares a vaccination plan for the entire population against the yellow fever. Around 12 million doses will be required to vaccinate the population. This vaccination at regional level is scheduled to be completed at the end of the year.

The yellow fever is transmitted to humans by mosquito bites and has killed more than 100 people in Brazil.

This move is a preventive measure. Luiz Antonio de Souza, the Regional Health Secretary hopes to expand the wave of vaccination for all the country to keep the yellow fever out.

L’état de Rio a annoncé un plan de vaccination pour toute la population, contre la fièvre jaune. Environ 12 millions de doses vont être requises pour vacciner toute la population. Cette vaccination, à l’échelle de la région, est prévue pour se terminer à la fin de l’année.

La fièvre jaune est transmise aux humains par les piqûres de moustiques et a déjà tué plus de 100 personnes au Brésil.

Cette vague de vaccination est une mesure préventive. Luiz Antonio de Souza, le Secrétaire régional à la Santé espère étendre la vague de vaccination sur tout le pays, afin d’écarter toute menace d’épidémie dans le pays.

Two-year old Sofia shot by stray bullets

This tragic event happened in Iraja, a suburb in the north of Rio. The

family was having a lunch in a restaurant and Sofia wanted to go in the play area just next to it. Her parents allowed her as it was protected by a door and they could see her through the window.

Unfortunately, the police were inspecting the district, due to the important number of stolen cars. The police identified a suspect but he didn’t stop and they opened fire.

All the families ran into the play area to pick up their kids and run for shelter but Sofia’s parents couldn’t find her. After a few seconds, Sofia’s dad finally found her, at the top of the slide, motionless. She had received a bullet in the head.

They tried to reach the hospital, under the desperate looks of the crowd, but it was too late.

Cet évènement tragique est arrivé à Iraja, une banlieue du nord de Rio. La famille était au restaurant et Sofia voulait se rendre dans l’aire de jeux voisine. Ses parents l’ont autorisée car l’aire de jeux était protégée par une porte et ils pouvaient la surveiller par la fenêtre.

Malheureusement, la police était en train d’inspecter la zone, en raison du nombre important de voitures volées à cet endroit. Les policiers identifièrent un suspect qui prit la fuite et ils ouvrirent le feu.

Toutes les familles se précipitèrent dans l’aire de jeux pour récupérer leurs enfants et se mettre à l’abri mais les parents de Sofia ne la virent pas immédiatement. Après quelques secondes, Le père de Sofia la trouva finalement en haut du toboggan, inerte. Elle avait reçu une balle dans la tête. Sous les regards désespérés de la foule, Ils la conduisirent le plus vite possible à l'hôpital mais il était trop tard.
