Rio Dance Festival about to kick off
Nearly one million tourists are expected between February 6 and 9 2016 in Rio de Janeiro for one of the most famous carnivals around the world.
The city’s Tourism Secretary, Mr Antonio Pedro FIGUEIRA de MELLO, expects the sum of $740 million spent during the carnival to the benefit of Rio de Janeiro’s economy.
According to him, 5 million visitors are likely to attend the 505 processions and 650 parades that will participate to the 2016 carnival.
The Hotel Association of Rio de Janeiro said that 85% of the rooms will be occupied. This is a similar figure to 2015, even though this year, 15,000 additional beds were available.
On this occasion the Municipal Health Department will provide two first-aid centres one in Copacabana and the second one in Ipanema. Last year, they treated 765 people.
