Third deadly accident at Itaquera's
stadium
Two workers died in an accident, Wednesday 27 November in Sao Paulo, on the construction site of Itaquera's stadium which
will host the opening match of the 2014 World Cup in
June.
According to the local daily, O Estado, a metal structure which was being assembled
collapsed, causing a crane to fall onto a
giant screen. All the East part of the stadium collapsed. This is the third
lethal accident in a stadium of the World Cup.
In June 2012 a worker fell to his death in Brasillia's
stadium. In March, in Arena da Amazonia in Manaus a worker died for the same
reason.
The stadium of Sao Paulo is part of the six Brazilian
stadiums which must be ready for the
December 31 (six months before the World Cup). This date has been decided by the
Federation of international Football Associations (FIFA). the Odebretch company who is in charge of the
construction claimed that Sao Paulo's stadium is completed at 94%.
The twelve sites are not really ready, six of them should be finished by the end of December to
execute the necessary tests.
The country is late and FIFA doubts that the
stadiums could be finished in time.

Troisième accident mortel au stade
d'Itaquera
Deux ouvriers sont morts
dans un accident, mercredi 27 novembre, à Sao Paulo, durant la construction du
stade d'Itaquera qui accueillera le match d'ouverture du Mondial 2014 de
football en juin.
Selon le journal local O Estado, une structure métallique en
phase de montage s'est effondrée, entraînant une grue qui, dans sa chute, est
tombée sur un écran géant. Toute la partie est du stade est donc totalement
démolie. Il s'agit du troisième accident mortel dans les stades du mondial, en
juin 2012 un ouvrier s'était tué lors d'une chute au stade de Brasilia. En mars,
un autre ouvrier avait également fait une chute
mortelle au stade Arena da Amazonia, à Manaus.
Le stade de Sao Paulo fait
partie des six stades brésiliens devant être achevés avant le 31 décembre (six
mois avant le début du Mondial), date fixée par la Fédération Internationale de
Football Associations (FIFA). La société Odebrecht qui est responsable du chantier a
déclaré que le stade d'Itaquera était prêt à 94 %,. Sachant qu'il faut six mois
pour pouvoir effectuer tous les tests nécessaires avant le début de la
compétition, que les 12 sites ne sont pas encore prêts, et que la moitié doivent
être terminés pour décembre, la FIFA doute que toutes les constructions soient
achevées à temps.
