The most important national museum of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro which was hosting old and valuable Egyptian and Roman artistic exhibits and also the oldest skeleton of the Americas burned down during the night of September 2, 2018.
The disappearance of more than 20 million items was a major loss for Brazilian history, culture and science.
For many, this tragedy happened because the government had decided to finance the Olympic Games rather than maintain the museum.
One of the reasons why some politicians preferred to spend billions to build new constructions projects is that they could get some kickback. So unfortunately, the museum didn’t receive the proper maintenance which explained that the fire protection system was not efficient.
A lot of Brazilians have criticized their government and some of them have protested so that the money can be channeled directly to museum equipment.

C’est plus de 20 millions de pièces qui ont disparu, ce qui constitue une perte majeure pour l’histoire, la science et la culture du Brésil.
Pour beaucoup, cette tragédie s’est produite parce que le gouvernement a préféré financer des projets liés aux jeux Olympiques plutôt qu’à la maintenance du musée historique et que les politiciens ont préféré dépenser des milliards pour de nouvelles constructions ce qui leur permettait de toucher des pots-de-vin. C’est ainsi que malheureusement, le musée n’a pas reçu la maintenance nécessaire ce qui explique que le système de protection incendie n’a pas été efficace.
De nombreux Brésiliens ont critiqué le gouvernement et protesté afin que l’argent aille désormais aux équipements du musée.
